Benjamin Franklin Quote

History affords us many instances of the ruin of states, by the prosecution of measures ill suited to the temper and genius of their people. The ordaining of laws in favor of one part of the nation, to the prejudice and oppression of another, is certainly the most erroneous and mistaken policy. An equal dispensation of protection, rights, privileges, and advantages, is what every part is entitled to, and ought to enjoy... These measures never fail to create great and violent jealousies and animosities between the people favored and the people oppressed; whence a total separation of affections, interests, political obligations, and all manner of connections, by which the whole state is weakened.

Three Conversations I Had Today
Well, I was going to go to sleep without writing because it is late here (about 1 am), but I decided that too many interesting things happened today. First, I got the call or I should say the email that I need to sign the offer letter for my new job, so it looks like I'm really going to be living down here for a while. I'm getting excited for some real change, not the fake Obama-like change. Second, I had many interesting conversations with foreigners today. Most of it centered around politics because after all tomorrow is D-day for the election. I couldn't help but remember one of my favorite quotes from Confucious, "When words lose their meaning, people lose their liberty." Nothing rang more true than what I heard from 3 different people that I know.

First, I have a friend who tried to tell me that socialism is the United Order. I had to laugh at that one and try to correct her erroneous thinking. The United Order, as far as I understand it, was an early attempt by the Mormon Church to live the law of consecration which basically just states that everyone puts all that they own into one pot and then it is distributed according to needs. I pointed out to her that the BIG difference between socialism and what Obama wants to do and the United Order is that one is voluntary and the other is not. Socialism or what Obama wants to implement involves the government forcefully confiscating money from one group of people and giving it to another regardless of the amount of effort and work the group of people that is losing money puts into their jobs or the lack of work that the other group that receives the money does. I've always found it rather interesting when a black man supports these kinds of principles because after all blacks in America were a minority that were victimized by the majority. Basically their labor was forcefully taken from them because the majority of whites in the South wanted it that way. So how exactly is it different when the majorities, those who aren't rich, forcefully take money from those who are rich (whatever rich means) and give it to themselves? The truth is that it is the same principles and values that existed under slavery that are in action under this scenario. There is nothing different. A majority decides that the minorityís inalienable rights do not matter as much as their greed and jealously. Obama just puts a nice pretty picture around it all, when in fact it is nothing more than stealing. There is nothing United about it. So I haven't heard from my friend, but I'm just tired of people being so easily deceived with this stuff. See how easy it is for people to lose their freedom. They just have to get two words mixed up, "socialism" and "United Order" and presto chango, they vote for a socialist.

Second, I had a conversation with a Turkish friend of mine who basically said that the whole world is capitalist and that no one is socialist. I tried to point out to him that it was the exact opposite. Socialism is nothing more than the government ownership and/or regulation of the economy. Last time I checked, all governmentsí control, own, or regulate substantial parts of their economies. Heck, the US federal government just took over those two huge mortgage companies (The feds trying to quietly clean up the mess they created). My friend tried to tell me that central banking is a tenant of capitalism. I just had to laugh at that one because Marx himself said that to implement socialism, you needed two things. First, you need a progressive taxation structure (we got one of those) and second, you need a central bank. We got them both. In short, I know many people who complain about the ills of capitalism, when in reality they don't know what they are talking about. We don't live in a world with free markets or capitalism. We live in a world where the government controls everything and the markets (not free) exist within the structure of the government. That isn't freedom. That isn't capitalism. But these people hear over and over on the TV, Internet, and the media that capitalism is the blame that FREE markets have failed, so they just repeat what they hear like good little lemmings and parrots. It's sickening. Once again, when words lose their meaning, people lose their liberty. To top it off, it looks like Obama will win the presidency, but I bet you if you were to ask most of the people who voted for him what he stood for, they wouldn't have a clue. They would just repeat a few lines they heard on TV and say something about change. They haven't read his plan for America. I read his plan and it is not a plan of change. It is a plan of more of the same. Obama is a believer in the idea that capitalism has failed and we need more government, when in reality what has failed is government intervention and meddling and what we need is more freedom. If he wins and gives us more government, we will have more money, but less goods and services that we want and need, because the government will grow, the number of people who freeload will grow, and the private sector (the part of the economy that produces the goods and services that you and I want and need) will no longer be able to support the size of the government that we have. Why do you think so many jobs have left the US? Anyway, I'm tired of people just parroting the crap they listen to in the media without stopping or pausing for a second to really analyze what is going on. When words lose their meaning, people lose their liberty.

Finally, I had an interesting conversation with a woman from my Spanish class. She's the typical bleeding heart liberal who believes whole-heartedly in indigenous rights and reparations. She couldn't understand why I didn't believe in it. Her position, like so many liberal positions, is solely based on an emotional reaction. They are not based on any concrete value. They throw around words like justice. They assume that money will fix all ills and that somehow someone always needs to pay for the sins of the past. My whole argument to her was this. Justice requires that the person who committed the sin or grievous act pays the penalty for their sins or acts. These indigenous people who were wronged in the past are no longer living and those who committed the acts are long gone as well. So how is it justice to punish people today for the acts of their ancestors and reward a group of people for suffering that they did not experience? Isn't that just another act in a long chain of injustices? She is basically willing to commit further injustices and do so willingly based on some kind of emotional attachment she has to people. They call this type of justice "social justice". If you've never had the chance, go buy the book, "A Quest for Cosmic Justice" by Thomas Sowell. Anyway, she got all upset and couldn't understand why I was so dumb. They like to use words like "You think too black and white", which is basically a way of saying that you think based on some kind of value structure that makes sense:) But you really can't use logic with a liberal because they are emotion driven. They are easily led to and fro by showing them heart rending stories in the media and then telling them that it is ok to take money from one group of people and give it to another. This is just another clever attempt by socialists to increase the size of government and increase the number of people who depend on the government. They use words like justice and fairness, when in reality it is not just to take from one who didn't commit injustice and give to another who didn't suffer the injustice. But hey, when words lose their meaning, people lose their liberty. One final thing that I found interesting in this conversation is how she talked lovingly about how cool Cuba was when she visited it. I find it rather amusing listening to liberals talk about how great a communist country that suppresses liberty and friend through the gun is so cool. If it is so great to live in the Stone Age, why donít these liberals go live there? Instead they travel the world and talk about how cool it is to see people driving cars from the 50s. Are they serious?

So I had a really interesting day filled with 3 interesting conversations, all centered on the same topic, "When words lose their meaning, people lose their liberty." I am increasingly amazed at the volume of people who sound like CNN or other media outlets. They are told to care about polar bears and ice caps, Darfur and greenhouse gases, and they dutifully obey and act as if they are autonomous, full-functioning thinking human life forms. They don't stop to question what they hear. They just repeat what they have heard. They don't stop to think, maybe I am being manipulated. They fail to make value-based decisions, instead basing their decisions on emotions. It is rather fascinating to watch. I wouldn't be so irritated with it all if they weren't trying so hard to take money away from me to use it to increase the size of the government. As Confucious said, "When words lose their meaning, people lose their liberty." When are people going to stop, drop and roll, and realize that they are being manipulated by elitists who really just want to control their lives because they believe they are special, gifted, and meant to lead. Anybody want to challenge me on any of this? Itís not an issue of Republican versus Democrat. Itís an issue of freedom from tyranny. Congress now has an approval rating hovering somewhere around 20 percent. Itís been that way for almost 2 years now (interestingly that is the amount of time the Democrats have controlled Congress). President Bush has an approval rating of around 30%. Judges throughout the land are overthrowing the will of the people concerning subjects such as gay marriage. What this tells me is that the federal government has declared war on the people because they no longer do the will of the people. Instead, they are intent on growing and giving us more socialism. What happens to a country and to its people when this happens? Where can the people turn to for a remedy?
