Grover Cleveland Quote

"I do not believe that the power and duty of the general Government ought to be extended to the relief of individual suffering. . . . A prevalent tendency to disregard the limited mission of this power should, I think, be steadfastly resisted, to the end that the lesson should be constantly enforced that though the people support the Government the Government should not support the people Federal aid in such cases encourages the expectation of paternal care on the part of the Government and weakens the sturdiness of our National character."

Obama and His Blind Spot
Today I read the following in an online article at http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081207/ap_on_el_pr/obama.

The president-elect said it is important that domestic carmakers survive the current crisis, although he accused the industry's executives of taking a "head in the sand approach" that has prevented their companies from becoming more competitive.

This is such classic liberal, Marxist thinking. Blame business for problems that have been created by the government. Why does Obama think that the problems with the car industry were because their ďheads were in the sandĒ? What does that mean? The auto executives canít ever enact the changes that really need to happen because the politicians are always on the side of the unions. The politicians and the government have been on the side of the unions since the 1930s, enacting laws that favor unions at the expense of businesses and now the businesses are going out of business and Obama has the gall to blame the business for the problems that were created at least in large part by the government taking sides. The government should never take sides and should never determine the winners and losers in an economy. One of the many things that irritate me about Obama is his belief, based on what he says that business is always at fault. He fails to see the role that the federal government has played in our current economic disaster and in the failure of our auto industry. The government is supposed to be an impartial player in the game. It is not supposed to take sides. Obama is truly beginning to act like FDR. FDR hated business as well and look what happened. We got the Great Depression in large part because of FDRís hatred for business. Are Obama and his blind spot, which is created by his strong belief in the Marxist view of the world, for the truth going to drive us into another Great Depression? My best bet is that it will because he is making some of the same mistakes the FDR made. It is always amazing to me that we can continue to make the same mistakes over and over even though we have history as our disposal. It just goes to show you that often our visions of how we think the world operates often are stronger than evidence and reality. Obama is going to ramp up government spending, even though he tells Congress to cut the pork out of the budget. Iím not sure what the difference is between pork and government spending. He says that we canít worry about the budget right now. All this extra spending will do is create another bubble in areas of the economy that will not lead to future economic growth. Sure heíll create jobs, but how many jobs will be lost in the private, productive sector of the economy. Weíll have plenty of paper pushers and fewer paper makers. Isnít it amazing to watch intelligent people make the same dumb decisions year after year hoping that the results will be different?

Another rather humorous or ironic comment Obama made in this article was the following, ďWe've got to provide a blood infusion to the patient right now to make sure that the patient is stabilized. And that means that we can't worry short term about the deficit. We've got to make sure that the economic stimulus plan is large enough to get the economy moving.Ē Now the question I have is what happens to the patient if you focus all your attention at forcing as much blood as you can into the system without fixing the cut off leg that is leading to the blood loss. Obama is so focused on putting more blood in the system that he doesnít realize that the system is the problem. We are suffering this economic crisis because the Federal Reserve and the Federal Government have a monopoly on the printing of money. The Federal Reserve creates money out of thin air so that the Federal Government can spend what it wants when it wants without taxing the people directly. This creates huge amounts of false economic growth or economic growth in areas that do not lead to wealth creation, prosperity, or productivity. For decades now, the government has pursued this kind of thinking and look where it has brought us to. This is not a failure of the market, because there hasnít been a free market. The federal government is the monopoly. It has been a failure of the Federal Reserve, central banking, and the idea that the federal government can be trusted with the power of creating money. Obama doesnít see this because this would crush his whole world view that business is the problem, not the federal government. But hey, what do I know. Iím not an expert like Obama and his minions. I have one final question. If everyone out there running the system is so expert at all this stuff, then how come they couldnít predict it, contain it, and avoid it. The truth is that they arenít experts. They are all just becoming rich at our expenses while preaching the false religion that the federal government can be trusted with the monopoly control of the financial system and the printing of money. Well, it is pretty obvious that it canít be, but how do we rest this control from the federal government and return the control back to the people before it is too late, before the whole economic system melts down? The answer is simple. We must undo what has been done by repealing the 16th Amendment and forever removing the power of the federal government to tax at will, plus we must get rid of the Federal Reserve. Why the federal government is so down on every other monopoly but its own is beyond me? They are going after companies like Microsoft for being monopolies, when in reality they are not, yet they fail to acknowledge their own perfect monopoly in the financial arena. That is the real question. You can continue to deny reality that the one common thread in all of our economic messes is not business, or you can face the truth and accept that the federal government is at fault for the mess we are in. Sure they can print more money, but as we see in Zimbabwe right now, more money doesnít mean anything. The government there just created a $200 million bill, yet half the people are starving. What is the problem there? Central planning and the government. What is the problem here? Central planning and federal government. We are certainly all suckers for allowing this to continue like it and those who are the greatest suckers are the ones that believe Obama was ever about real change. Real change would be dismantling the Federal Reserve, removing the government's power to create money out of nowhere, and repealing the 16th amendment. Anything short of that is nothing more than the same. Hey, I can call a cat a dog, but it doesn't make it a dog. Obama can call change change, but that doesn't make it change.
