General Douglas MacArthur Quote

In this day of gathering storm, as the moral deterioration of political power spreads its growing infection, it is essential that every spiritual force be mobilized to defend and preserve the religious base upon which this nation was founded. For it is that base which has been the motivating impulse to our moral and national growth. History fails to record a single precedent in which nations subject to moral decay have not passed into political and economic decline. There has been either a spiritual reawakening to overcome the moral lapse, or a progressive deterioration leading to ultimate national disaster.

Wealth Does Not Come By Force
Socialism is an interesting animal. It consists of two basic parts. First, it is a top down system where the direction comes from the top and those below must follow it. Sometimes this comes by physical force and threat of death. Other times, it comes through the economic forces of taxation and regulation. Either way, the subject of socialism has very little, if any, freedom to choose his or her direction in life. Second, it always comes with the promise of security and equality. These are powerful ideas that many people desire. The interesting part of this promise is that socialism can never deliver upon these promises because of the first idea above. Security and equality can never come about by force, because those in power cannot resist taking a little more for themselves, their families, etc. The power they have is absolute and eventually absolute power corrupts absolutely.

No government can begin or attempt to deliver upon their promises of security except through force and confiscation of someone else’s wealth to do so. The confiscation of wealth from others generally has two consequences. First, it undermines the ability of the government to provide security by punishing those who are the best at generating wealth that eventually finds its way to lower levels of economic development in the form of jobs and higher standards of living. In a free market, which the United States has not had in a hundred years or more, those who become wealthy are those who serve the people the best by providing them goods and services that they want. Why wouldn’t the masses want these people to become wealthy? The masses benefit from the ingenuity and hard work of those who deliver goods and services to people at lower and lower prices. To rob these people of their money removes their incentive or desire to innovate, thus lowering the standard of living of all, especially the poor and under-educated. Forced confiscation of wealth from the rich undermines the promises of security. Second, it creates a dependence upon the government for one’s living. One no longer has to work to provide for oneself or one’s family. This dependence creates entitlement and ultimately undermines the work ethic thus undermining the productivity of a society and ultimately the standard of living and the security the government promised. The government cannot deliver on what is not created. It must get its funds from other people because it produces nothing of its own. If more and more people are not working, then there are less and less funds to take. Ultimately, the promises of security and the attempts at security can never be met through force. Security comes through person hard work and initiative, not through handouts and victim mentality. Equality comes through people willingly giving of their substance, not through force. Socialism and the force it uses always undermine its promise of security and equality.

Why is America so quick to walk down the path of socialism, when we already know it will lead to economic devastation and the destruction of millions of lives? I suppose it is because people want the easy way out. They want to believe that someone at the top can just wave their magic wand and provide them the wealth they want or feel they are entitled to. Wealth doesn’t come from a magic wand. Wealth comes from hard work. No amount of promises a politician makes can make it any different. America can continue to believe in the illusion and the fantasy of socialism and its latest prophet, Barack Obama, or it can get back to reality and the real generation of wealth. Wealth is not generated by the government. The standard of living cannot be improved by the government. The government destroys these things because it must take in order to do anything. It produces nothing. It is the overhead of the people and too much overhead eventually sinks the ship.
