Grover Cleveland Quote

"I do not believe that the power and duty of the general Government ought to be extended to the relief of individual suffering. . . . A prevalent tendency to disregard the limited mission of this power should, I think, be steadfastly resisted, to the end that the lesson should be constantly enforced that though the people support the Government the Government should not support the people Federal aid in such cases encourages the expectation of paternal care on the part of the Government and weakens the sturdiness of our National character."

Obama's Bold Shift Action
Obama said in his inauguration speech that "The state of the economy calls for action, bold and swift. And we will act, not only to create new jobs but to lay a new foundation for growth."

First, when has the government ever got it right and does Obama really believe a bunch of bureaucrats and academics and career government employees can plan correctly for where we need to grow. Ha.Ha. That is so funny. Wouldnít the better idea be to shrink government exponentially and let people elect by their free will choices of buying and selling where they want the economy to grow instead of having some central planners try and guess where it should be. Of course, Obama wonít do this because he is young and arrogant and still believes in the failed old ideas of socialism, but he has until now never run anything and now he will find out for himself that his ideas will not work and unfortunately it will affect adversely tens of millions of Americans. Then the moment of truth will come, will he be able to admit he was wrong or will he follow the same path as FDR and drink his own koolaid and believe that he wasnít at fault for the economic collapse. Will capitalism once again be blamed for the failings of central planning, progressive taxation, and socialism? Will the American people once again be deceived into believing that the government is not at fault for the economic collapse? Will they believe the lying, sweet words of the media and the President? I hope they arenít this stupid and gullible, but we just donít know yet.

Second, anytime a government asks for bold quick action that should scare everyone. Mistakes are usually made with bold, quick government action. Programs and bureaucracies are created that were never intended to live more than a couple of years, yet they live on for decades. The last thing our economy needs is more government and regulation. That is the exact reason we are in this mess. You canít blame this one on business or capitalism because the government regulates and controls everything. There is no capitalism or freedom to choose your economic relationships without government interference in America. We havenít had that for several decades now, at least going back to before the Great Depression. Yet, the socialists and liberal will try to twist history to justify their actions and to grow government even bigger. They view the world as a place where government should dictate, where government should save the people from the evils of the world, and so on. Therefore, they view every setback automatically without hesitation as being caused by evil capitalism and business without realizing that we donít have capitalism anymore. We have socialism. We have the system they love, yet they are blinded by their vision of the world and so they cannot admit that the real problem is the government. Instead they call for bold action initiated by the government that will only lead our nation further down the path to economic and moral destruction. This country was never supposed to be lead by the government, from the top down. It was always supposed to be lead one individual at a time with people making individual choices in their lives, free mostly from the arbitrary and cruel decision making of any type of central authority. That was the America that the founding fathers set up, not what we have today. What we have today is a federal government that controls everything, at the expense of the rights of the states and the liberty of the people. The Constitution is no longer followed and when it is, it is usually twisted in such a way that it no longer serves as a protection for the people against the totalitarian control of the federal government. The federal government has, in essence, become the King of English before 1776.

What this country needs is bold, swift action, but not the kind of centralization of power that Obama is proposing with his call for more government, for more central planning. This country needs bold, swift shrinking of the federal. Obama is right when he says the patient is ill and needs to be stabilized, but he is wrong with his approach to stabilize it. If you want to stabilize the patient, or the economy, he needs to cut government swiftly and get rid of the corrupt, incompetent system of the Federal Reserve.
