Daniel Webster Quote

An unlimited power to tax involves, necessarily, the power to destroy.

Letter to Representative Abercrombie
Dear Rep Abercrombie,

As my representative in Congress, I would like to encourage you to do three things. All three things revolved around one key principle. That principle is that the federal government should once again follow the Constitution and become small again, allowing the states to assume their rightful Constitutional place in this country. I am aware that socialism, to a great extent, has influenced greatly the size and scope of the federal government that we have today, but socialism is completely opposed to our Constitution. This country was founded on the principles of personal responsibility and equality under the law. We are supposed to be a lawful nation that follows the Constitution. Instead we have become a nation of men who ignores the Constitution, with the federal government being the leading desecrator of the Constitution.

I would encourage you to:

1. Eliminate and/or simplify the current federal income tax. It is clear that for decades the federal government has been slowly strangling and killing our economic engine. See the flight of manufacturing jobs over the past few decades and the increasingly difficult struggle that we have to make a decent living. The federal government is the leading culprit in this and it is my opinion that the American people are beginning to realize this. So it would better for you to make proactive changes than reactive changes. Look at Congress's current approval rating to verify my belief.

2. Eliminate social security and other coerced forms of savings. This program is a lie. It offers no guarantee of anything to my generation. I know that it will be insolvent in the next couple of decades. Where do you get the right and moral authority to force me to pay into this program? It is immoral to do so. That is a fact. I am so upset with this program and with the government's meddling in my life. A Revolutionary War was fought in 1776 to combat this kind of government interventionism and regulation. Why won't you folks in Congress acknowledge this simple fact? Are you all so drunk on your supposed great intellects and think that you know best what to do with our lives?

3. Reduce the amount of government regulation we current live under. It is choking our lives and economy and fundamentally infringing upon our God given rights of liberty to pursue our happiness in whatever way we choose. You have no right to do these things. You might have the power, but you do not have the right.

You and your fellow colleagues in Congress are asserting power upon the American people that is not yours both Constitutionally and morally. As it states in the Declaration of Independence, "But when a long train of abuses and usurpations pursuing invariably the same object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute despotism, it is their right, it is their duty to throw off such Government, and to provide new guards for their future security." I look forward to working to peaceably throw off the chains of tyranny, despotism, and usurpation this federal government is currently inflicting on the American people for the rest of my life. I will always choose the side of liberty and freedom, because it is right. In a world that increasingly believes little in right and wrong, I am proud to declare the liberty and freedom are always right. I would ask you to reread that great document of independence and ponder how much our current federal government, no matter how good your and others intentions have been, has become like the government of the King of England in 1776. It is rapidly spreading tyranny and usurpation over the American people and this is wrong. It's that simple. If you want to help the American people, the middle class, or whatever class you want to help, then get out of the way and let the American people create wealth and jobs. The federal government, which you help control to a large extent, is killing us by destroying jobs, stifling creativity, and introducing socialism and its evil cousin, progressivism into our lives forcibly. Why are we trying so hard to become what does not work, socialism?

I would appreciate a reply to this letter. I would hope that you too are first and foremost a lover and respecter of freedom and liberty, not a lover of government interventionism and usurpation of our rights.
