Thomas Jefferson Quote

How can we expect impartial decision between the General government, of which they are themselves so eminent a part, and an individual State, from which they have nothing to fear? We have seen, too, that contrary to all correct example, they are in the habit of going out of the question before them, to throw an anchor ahead, and grapple further hold for future advances of power. They are then, in fact, the corps of sappers and miners, steadily working to undermine the independent rights of the States, and to consolidate all power in the hands of that government in which they have so important a freehold estate. But it is not by the consolidation, or concentration of powers, but by their distribution, that good government is effected.

The F word
I hate the F word. You know which word I'm talking about, FAIR. Today we live in a world where everyone talks about life being fair. Why?

I think this is crazy. We have laws that are designed to make everything fair. From discrimination laws to laws designed to take money from the rich and give it to the poor, these laws are all designed to make life fair for someone. Supposedly these people who have had bad breaks in life need the helping hand of the government to get their big break. Well, what does the government expect in return? They expect their loyal vote. So for fairness, they get your vote.

Let's take anti-discrimination laws. Clearly these laws are designed to right some perceived wrong in order to make life fair for the persons or groups that supposedly were discriminated against. Donít creating anti-discrimination laws that benefit one group of people in turn discriminate against another group of people? So how can this be fair?

Life will never be fair. Legislation will only make things worse, because the majority that is discriminated against will eventually say enough is enough as they become more and more fed up with laws that are penalizing them for something they had no part of.

You see, life is blatantly unfair. It will never be fair. You will always have some people who get the short end of the stick, who have terrible lives, and no amount of legislation will make that better. It will only, in the end, skew things so terribly so that in the end we are worse off than when we started.

So please, please, please, quit using the F word around me. Life isn't fair, so live with it.
