Bill Clinton Quote

From the first days of our Republic, America's security has depended on the clarity of the message: Don't tread on us. A firm and commensurate response was essential to protect our sovereignty, to send a message to those who engage in state-sponsored terrorism, to deter further violence against our people, and to affirm the expectation of civilized behavior among nations.

Barack, Oprah, and the Democratic Agenda
Today a couple of things caught my attention. I noticed that Oprah is openly supporting Barack Obama. Along with that, I also had the idea that the Democratic Party is really the Socialist Party of America. First, Iíd like to talk about the Oprah story.

Barack Obama is a candidate that openly advocates taxing the rich and business to pay for the huge costs of universal health care. He also is the candidate that says America does not want tax cuts. In essence Barack is your typical big government candidate who has a governmental solution for everything, every ill, or every problem. He is in essence a socialist at heart. From cradle to grave, he wants to provide you a house, a wage, health care, and many other amenities of life, cloaking them in the verbiage of a right. This is the socialist lingo. However, this kind of thinking sure isnít in consonance with the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, or the founding principles of freedom and personal responsibility that this country was founded on. Large government means loss of personal economic freedom which is a loss of freedom. There is no way around this. It is fact. It is true. Now, for the life of me, I canít understand why Oprah, one of the richest women in America, would put her financial resources and weighty opinion behind the candidate who would take that away from here. It makes absolutely no sense to me. Oprah could give away her fortune tomorrow without the government getting involved in any of it. Why doesnít she do that? Giving it to the government allows other people and their motives to control what happens with that money. So now you have a percentage of it going to supporting bureaucrats whose self-interests necessitates that they do what it takes to provide a rational for their jobs. Not only does the government waste money, they also control people. It is the concentrating of power and freedom into the hands of the few (bureaucrats) that our founding fathers fought the Revolutionary War for. It is that simple. And now Oprah is supporting a candidate who openly espouses the concentration of power and freedom in the form of heavy taxation into the hands of the few. I do not understand Oprah position.

Second, this idea that the Democratic Party has become the party of socialists has been running around in my head for a while. Hear me out on this. What do socialists want? They want the government, in the hands of the few, to tell the people, the many, how to live and what to do. In return for their subservience, they promise to take care of you. But history has shown repeatedly that socialist countries, such as Russia, China, North Korea, Vietnam, and many, many others, cannot keep these promises. Socialism does not work as well as capitalism because people get lazy, complacent and donít want to work for what they receive. All the major entitlement programs (social security, Medicare, and Medicaid) were brought to the U.S. by Democratic Congresses and Presidents. It wasnít until this century that the Republicans fell into that trap with Medicare Part D, which I think is a terrible idea because it once again cedes control to the federal government and ultimately will lead to rising prices of drugs. So it is clear the Democrats are the party of big government and socialism, although I would concede that the Republicans havenít been too much better lately. I would, however, stress that there are more Republicans who believe in small government than there are Democrats who do so. The Republicans have fallen into the trap of trying to buy votes, which is a terrible price to pay because they have partly lost their soul in the process. Now back to the Democrats. So the Democrats are the socialist party and they want big government. What is the fastest way to get big government and control? It would be to allow tens of millions of poor immigrants into this country. It would dilute the voting power of those who believe in personal responsibility and freedom, not in free goodies from the government to those who have not earned them. This is almost what happened in the Senate recently, but the American people rose up and let the Senate hear loud and clear that we saw what they were doing and we didnít approve. They backed down, but they will try again. I would argue that this example tells me that I cannot trust the Democratic Party to protect my individual freedom because they believe the government should do for me what I can do for myself. I do not want the government in all aspects of my life. They already force me to contribute to the social security and Medicare system. They force me to buy health insurance. They force me to pay a large percentage of taxes. They over regulate me against my will. And the Democrats want to do even more. They canít be trusted. They must be watched and they must be notified when they step out of bounds like they did with the immigration bill.

I canít understand what Oprah is doing, unless she honestly believes that government is the answer to everything. Then it makes sense. But it would appear that neither Barack nor Oprah has studied the history of the last century and seen what socialism and its more evil partner communism leads to. It leads to lower standard of living, loss of freedom, and ultimately tyranny. This country was not founded on these principles. And the Declaration lays out what must be done if tyranny returns to this land, ďBut when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same object, evinces a design to reduce them under absolute tyranny; it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such government, and to provide new guards for their future security.Ē If we buy the Democratic platform of big government, we are headed for absolute tyranny and no government has the right to do that. The Declaration declares that absolute tyranny must be opposed.
