Marcus Tullius Cicero Quote
We ought to beware of the passion for glory, for it robs us of liberty, which brave men should pursue with all their might, and we should not seek command or rather upon occasion decline it or lay it down…Nothing is worthy of the admiration, the desire, or the effort of man except what is honorable and decorous and…he must surrender neither to his fellowmen, to passion, or to fortune…It is a mark of moral courage to make light of these objects which dazzle the world, and steadily to despise them on fixed and settled principles.

Why should I apologize for the past?
|
Today at Unity ’08, a convention of four minority journalism associations, Obama said, “"There's no doubt that when it comes to our treatment of Native Americans as well as other persons of color in this country, we've got some very sad and difficult things to account for.”
While these types of phrases win applause from the masses that have been taught to applaud these types of phrases, they are shallow. Who is Obama referring to when he references “our treatment”? It certainly can’t be any Americans that are alive today. If he wants to personally take blame for transgressions of his ancestors, then by all means, do so. After all, he’s going to heal the soul of America and bring peace to the world. What’s a minor atonement for the sins of the past to someone as great as he? And when he talks about “we’ve got some very sad and difficult things to account for”, who is the we in this phrase referring to. I certainly don’t have anything to account for. Those people in the past who committed these sins have to account of them. Americans, as a whole, do not have to account for any of this. Why would Obama, then, want Americans as a whole to feel sorry for something they took no part in and to apologize for this? I believe the answer is simple. Some liberals want to implement big government in America. They want socialism with all its perks for the elite and control of the masses. That is what arrogant elitists always want. They do not know the limitations of their own genius. However, they are in the minority in America. Most Americans still distrust big government and don’t want it in their lives. So how can they get big government in our lives? They can make us feel guilty for something, then manipulate our guilt and create huge government redistribution programs to help a minority that has been harmed in the past. Hmmm…. Does this sound familiar? It should. I know that America, IN THE PAST, participated in some terrible human tragedies. Some American Indians were murdered, but so were some settlers as well. Not all Indians were victims and not all settlers and Americans were murderers. It was a complex situation with no easy answers.
While liberals and those plagued with white guilt might applaud Obama for saying the politically correct thing, I understand that this statement along with many of his statements are historically inaccurate and seek to place blame where there is none for the sole purpose of implementing big government and socialism in America. What good does it do to apologize to the great grandchild of the grandfather who was under slavery? It does no good. You can’t right the wrongs of the past by wrong the wrong people in the present. You’ll just have to apologize for that later on. But to liberals, white guilt is a vehicle to achieve their aims of big government. They always minority groups to gain power. This time it is the blacks and Indians. Lenin and Mao used the peasants. Will America be as dumb as the peasants during Lenin and Mao’s time were? Only time will tell how far hope and change will take us down the path that has been trod so many times before in history. Why is America turning its back on the path of prosperity? Why is it saying no to freedom and liberty and yes to big government? The answer is simple. It has been deceived by people like Obama who seek to guilt us into accepting false change, false hope, and his false message that socialism is good, that we must right wrongs that we played no part in, that big government is the way to prosperity. These are all lies. Will America believe these big lies?
